The wind in Maui is extremely strong some days. "Makani" is Hawaiian for wind. Plein air painting in these conditions would be prohibitive on this day, but I went to Makena and made a little drawing which I intend to paint very large. I post the study here and love the beautiful sea colors blended with the "colors of the wind".
I have to refer to a mentor who trained me to venture into an extreme color palette. She said; "If you want to stick with a traditional color palette, just take a picture. If you want to paint the wind, or any other natural subject, you're painting with an extreme palette." Pamela DuLong Williams.
